CadWorx is a basic package that is popular with small fabricators. It runs on top of AutoCAD and can’t handle larger projects. I would say the maximum size project it could handle would be an average size 4 pile offshore platform, no matter what the salesman tells you. Basically a CadWorx model is individual AutoCAD drawings xrefed together, so Composite Material Reports and Weight Reports are difficult. Make sure the client doesn’t expect the same results as PDMS.
CadWorx Cons:
Good for small projects only
Reports are sub-par
You will need to create Catalogs and Specs for CadWorx, when you already have these in PDMS
Training required
Finding experienced users will be difficult.
The larger the model gets the slower the program gets.
Has any of our PDMS user base had to use CADWorx? If so can you help provide any unbias pros/cons about it. I am fighting a client today against using it and sticking with PDMS and need real ammo. They are just looking at sticker price and not PDMS true performance capabilities. Any help quickly would be much appreciated.
One client of ours dropped Cadworx for PDMS. They ran into the limitations above and also had troubles maintaining any links between dwgs for a particular item. They also had problems with users not following exact procedures thus making reporting in accurate.
They did like the catalog side until they learned PDMS and then were singing a different tune.
