Today I added a Premium Membership Donation. At this point if people want to donate toward the site it is fine. If not that is fine too but I do not really want to start any sort of paid thing at this point. I will be moving some of the more advanced subject sections into a Premium Membership section. I believe this will help cut down on the excessive questions that are really for the more advanced users.
We have lost most of our sponsors over the last year such as Navisworks, Leica Geosystems, Victaulic, and soon Graitec Solutions. I feel that as long as we still have two full time sponsors like Aveva and Viewpoint Americas then I feel the cost involved in PDMSWorld.com will not be a burden. If we get some donations it will help as well.
We plan on adding more moderators soon to help spread the workload. The current moderators have always done a fantastic job helping people find answers to questions. Over the last year we have really had some members shine and would like to ask them to be moderators as well.
Personally I am not using PDMS any longer but I want to continue to support any needs the moderators and members of PDMSWorld.com have.
Hi
I share your views and understand where you are comming from, but disagree!
This site doesn't run on fresh air, it needs a base cost to survive and run hence the need for subscription.
As a suggestion would it suffice to have a tier subscription where the likes of you (Expert/Experienced) would suscribe, say $10 and a beginner (Newbie) subscribe, say $30 and have this across the board and not just for selected forums?
This site is already set up to have tier members and once you progress your membership from new to intermediate to expert so your cost will reduce as you learn and help others.
I answered the questions of other people for favour. Of course I get salary from my emloyer for my knowledge, so sharing that is theoritically against my good. I share it only for fun, and to collect respects, even if I don't get money for that. But I will not pay for being able to share it, by no manner of means. Sorry, I will not pay for the "premium account", since I was on the "support" side, not on the "consumer" side. Paying for this wouldn't be fun for me anymore.
I enjoy the programming side of PDMS most, and now the sections related to that are locked for me. Answering beginners' questions are not the most uplifting feeling, but sometimes must be done. But doing _ONLY_ that is annoying. So I think I will visit this forum rarely from now.
I have asked Daniel to add you under premium section, you have been more than helpful on this site and have been sharing your PML programming knowledge with the rest.
I apologize for accidentally filtering you out.
please come back and you have my respect.
Also as I posted somewhere else before, if you think your membership classification is not justified please PM me or expert. We will look into this.
I understand the need to cover costs but agree with pzg. For those that have helped build this site by answering questions and promoting it, paying for a membership just doesn't cut it. BTW In every class I have taught since pdmsworld started, I have provided the url to the students. It's not the cost but more the principle.
Sean,
I am in total agreement with you. I am not sure how Daniel set the premium cut-off as. I think a few people got missed during this process, so please post or PM me and I will do what I can.
