Drawing Plant Grids in DRAFT

Parents
  • In PDMS 12, there is a new utility in DESIGN for entering a displaying regular or irregular grids that are stored in the database. It is described in the new Introduction to Common Functionality manual:
This utility creates project wide and local, rectangular and radial, grids. Grids are related to design areas: some will be project wide, whilst others may be local to a building/room, etc.
The topic caused considerable interest back in October at the PDMS 12 workshop at ISEIT in San Antonio.

AVEVA intends to introduce new facilities in DRAFT to show these grids on drawings and is working on the specifications. At this stage, any views or examples of what users might like to see would be welcome. It is anticipated that grids would be treated similarly to other objects but with some special behaviour - for example, they would probably not usually be subject to hidden-line elimination.

The same data structures are used for ship grids in the AVEVA Marine outfitting product. We intend to create similar new facilities for showing them on drawings in both product lines.

Please contribute to this discussion thread. If there is enough interest, it might be possible to arrange a more interactive web presentation and discussion.
