CEView LDAP AD compatibilty

Good afternoon,

We are defining a project with an Windows CE HMI target and LDAP server security is required.

We have seen your tutorials, webinars and documentation and have not seen any incompatibility with CEView in windowsCE targets.

Do we have to take into account any requirements concerning licensing or OS to choose the target HMI device/OS?

Which windows CE versions or packages are compatible with this security configuration?

    Do you have to use Windows CE?

    When purchasing a license, you will have to specify whether it is IoTView, CEView, EmbeddedView or PC. These are different licenses with different pricing.

    The problem with Windows CE is that certain features are enabled/disabled by the OEM, usually based on available hardware resources and what the OEM deems important. Also, Windows CE is being phased out. OEMs will still sell and support it, but...

    Windows CE (currently known as Windows Embedded Compact) has been released in several versions. I believe version 8 (2013) is the most current, but version 7 is probably the one to go with based on the number of OEMs still offering it. I do not know about your specific LDAP requirement. It is a question for the OEM.

    We recently were in the same conundrum. We ended up going with Win10 IoT Enterprise. If you can afford the extra hardware expense, it is the way to go. You can use the EmbeddedView license, which is a minimum cost adder to CEView. You get all of the features of Windows 10 at a reasonable price.
