SmartTV

Hi,

I would like to put on a production line a smart TV showing OEE using indusoft. Tech support told me it should work using SMA (mobile access). Have anyone of you ever tried it, if so what model do you recommend? Samsung, sony, LG. I guess they all have some kind of different OS

thanks
  • Hi,

Now this sounds like an interesting idea!

We have placed large flat screen TVs around our plant for production performance display ... however they are used simply as large displays for dedicated embedded PCs with very small (150 tag) Indusoft licences. These PCs read data for display directly from other Indusoft stations which are controlling/monitoring equipment. This works well for us, but using a smart TV would avoid some hardware and installation costs.

If the TV could function as an Indusoft thin client the solution would be simple, as long as you could make it always start displaying a fixed web page. Unfortunately I don't think this is possible. Mobile access might be possible ... but I can't offer any advice in that area.

If you don't have any luck with mobile or browser access, you might consider a dedicated PC and small license ... although a stand-alone TV would be a neater solution!!

Please remember update this post to let us know how you go.

  • I use an Android tablet as a potable HMI whist working on machines, however the secret is that its actually a virtual desktop onto a Windows laptop which is running the thin client.

Its not exactly an elegant solution, but if you have a spare PC then the same method could work for your application
  • Can you tell me how the Android tablet accesses the PC virtual desktop? I assume some additional software is required?
  • There are plenty of VDP and VNC programs for android, my personal favorite is Jump as its pretty simple does both RDP and VNC and the touch interface is pretty good.

  • Hi,

I've found that ip tv running espial seems to be the best at scoring for html5 according to the html5 test on this web site:

    http://html5test.com/results/television.html

they talk about Sharp Aquos and Toshiba L7200. I know it would be easier to achieve with a pc attached, but cost saving is always welcome when implementing multiples screens.

I'll keep this post updated with my test.

    thanks
