• We are constantly being challenged by all sorts of conversion tasks and find ourselves using incredible amounts of time finding first the tools that can do the job and then pre- and postprocessing to get a decent result. Not long ago I took a day and scavenged the internet for trial versions of several self contained tools boasting to be the top of the pops, to find that none of them could actually deliver what they promised. The one that came closest in supporting most formats was Right Hemisphere, albeit not perfect at all of them. My question, of course, is: Does anyone know of a toolbox that can convert a lot[/U] of 3D file formats? Not necessarily one single program - but definitely a limited[/U] collection.

It is, by the way, not so much PDMS models we need to convert. Mostly it is CAD files of just about any known format from vendors or customers that we need to merge with other CAD files of just about the same variety.
  • I usually hate to do sales work for software company even when I was paid for, but I am quite impressed with Naviswork's performance on real project and the types of files it can open.
In this case you should definitely forgive yourself, for Navisworks is indeed an impressive program and thank you for suggesting it. We use it extensively for reviewing already and to some extend for clash detection. What I need is something entirely different, though; we need to be able to convert from one format to another - both could be anything. It could be from PDMS to Microstation or from Architectural Desktop to PDMS or from Microstation to Maya. Basically it is one or at least very few tools that can cover almost our entire conversion need that we are looking for.
