I'm a mech. engineer, who, recently has devoted almost all his time to learning PDMS( not an easy task, I must confess).
Although, I'm not doing badly and it's quite interesting, I need some re-assurances about the the relevance of PDMS and the energy and designing industry.
I'll hate to work so hard and later find my acheivement obsolete. I'm young and a promising career ranks 1st on my cards.

PDMS is Most powerful software for 3D-Modeling specially in Plant.(Gas,Oil,Petro,Energy,PowerPlant,etc)
However its depend on your company or yours idea for using this software.
As a mechanical eng. i can say;this is one of best software that i have seen in my work & job.
