I wish to ask something user of PDMS....
I am sitting in front of computer approximately 12 hours, and in the last several months I have a lot of pain in right arm and fingers of right arm...I think that is because using a lot mouse...
And, Yes I have a ergonomics mouse, but the pain is still here....
My question is, have anybody experience with working tablet in PDMS, is it possible to use a working tablet in PDMS ?
I think to buy a Wacom working tablet with pencils
Yes, I have the same problem, my hands sometime overheats after using the mouse (especially the wheel) for a long time and sometime they hurt at night.
I do not think using a tablet will help, but forming a good habbit such as get up and walk around the office every two hours or so may help reduce the strain on your eyes and on your wrist.
I drink a lot of tea/water during the day, which forces me to fill up water as well as go to the bathroom.
That is good place for a thread....I wish that this forum stay clean and well ordered...
I wish to congregation on a first 1K post.... :)
Why I ask about a tablet, because I think that is holding a pencil is much natural and ergonomic then a mause....
The problem is that I am 30 years old and have pains. That is not good.
I had the same problem...for 6 years I have used a Wacom Intuos 2 then later Intuos 3 tablet...I now have no problems at all...Wacom is the leader in this field...
It's a superb little device...pretty expensive initially but you'll get a few years out of them...I bought a cheaper one in the range for home...but it was no where near as good as my office on....(as listed above)...

My friend bought one...but I don't think he persiviered enough with it...as he uses both...which is neither here or there...you need to make the full transition...
But You did not explain to me is it possible to use tablet in PDMS...
As, You know because of rotate, pan, zoom...Is it possible to write a numbers in number fields, on command line....PDMS is not a usual Windows application...
Because I'm right handed I use a number pad on my left handside of the keyboard...
- with the keypad i use the number 3 to zoom out.
- have the pen i use to zoom in (using the window facility)
- i always have F9 on and use the side/buttom drag to rotate...
- i simply pick on the tablet to move the cursor to type in different places...command line/dialogue boxes...
- you simply tap the tablet for the double click...you set the time delay between the taps...so you can have a slow double click...or a fast double click...
The pen has 2 buttons on it...you can set these to many commands as you wish...

Milic,
I don't think the tablet is your answer... I recently visited a Neurologist and he administered some electrical stimulus test to my arms. Turns out that sitting in front of the computer all day with my arms resting on hard surfaces has caused nerve damage to the "Ulnar" nerve. This nerve is located on the bottom side of the elbow and causes the tingle and cold feeling in my little and ring fingers on both hands. Simple solution: I now rest my arms on small pillows to cushion my elbows. This also eliminates the shoulder strain that would occur if I tried to sit straight up all day. The damage is reversable and my symptoms are starting to ease up after three months.
Your right about the elbow thing...think there's a lot to be said about the ergonomic studies....nice little picks of how to sit properly...right angles and all that...
I worked with a major oil company who had a lost time incident due to RSI that spured them to going round every person contractor/staf...
They even went as far as showing us how much slouching increases stress and strain in the shoulders...they did this by getting someone slouching and put this device that measures electrical resistance on the shoulder...and it went off the chart...the same person sat straight (as per all studies show) and the noise was negligable...
But I use the tablet...(I've never leant on my elbows)....my problem was purely carple tunnel syndrome...and immediatly my discomfort was gone when I started to use it...
so is the tracking on the wacom accurate? Is it just as easy to use the pen? You say the Intuos is better? I am looking into buying one since I am in PDMS WORLD at least 12 hours a day! If it help I will not hesitate in making a purchase
I asked the guys at Aveva to support the spacemouse. We use it with all kinds of Cad software and it really helps because a lot of the clicking is to change the view.
