• Hi,

Got a question relating to the new premium sections here on PDMS world.

I understand the business case for the section and its necessity but speaking as someone who has asked many questions but who has also shared knowledge I can't help thinking that unless the majority of people who use the forum also sign up to the premium forums then a lot of knowledge and advice just won't get posted in the paid forums.

Has anyone found the new sections worthwhile since the restrictions were put in place and are they worth it?

A premium membership is for those who want to support PDMSWorld.com and is not meant to restrict people. Most beginners have no use for some of the things discussed in the Premium section therefore they will not be missing out on much. I can however tell you that there will be more premium sections added through the life of the forum.

I have been asked to move the Admin Module to the premium section as well but felt it needed to stay for now where it is.

I have also put restrictions on PRIVATE MESSAGING for non premium members due to recent spamming. Most of the time spammers will not pay a fee to have access to spam people so I hope that by restricting non Premium members from the Private Messaging system it will cut down on spammers.
  • Perhaps there are better words to use than restrict.

On the grounds of supporting the site, I have no objection to becoming a premium member. It is and I hope it continues to be a useful knowledge base for those of us who aren't considered a 'Guru of all things PDMS'.

As soon as I get my new company a/c sorted I'll be signing up.

My main concern is that there are a number of people on this forum who may not be motivated enough to sign up, whose knowledge will, in effect, be lost as they won't be accessing some areas of the forum, diluting some of the benefit associated with shared knowledge we have all enjoyed over the past few years.

Please don't take this as a criticism, I recognise the need for the reorganisation and I can't suggest anything better than what has already been proposed and actioned, I'm just concerned with the long term effect it may have.

Thank you for spending the time to offer your input. It is greatly appreciated.
  • some users have given me some customization installer that was written by a Aveva local office (with free distribution rights).  I am asking a member of this site who is very good at PML to review it and then it will be posted under the PML section.
