Hello everyone, as most know I built PDMSWorld.com to be a place for all of us to come and discuss the latest in PDMS. It has been a joy to watch PDMSWorld.com grow and with the moderator staff on hand and the members being so great the site has turned into a great place for PDMS related conversation.
As we now approach 10,000 members I have decided to open a new website geared toward technology, hobbies, cars, computers, music, movies, etc. It will be for general fun topic discussion and for things outside of work. It is a free website and not a sponsored site as long as I can keep bandwidth at a minimum. To keep bandwidth low it will be a very basic looking site with limited features. Basically it is really geared toward hobbies and things that interest me and other people outside of the normal work day.
I plan to launch this new site soon and then people who wish can go to it. Member registration will not be carried over from PDMSworld because it will be a separate site all together for fun stuff.
Depends on bandwidth. I have pdmsworld on a dedicated server so I can just add the new site to it with no problem with no more added cost besides the software cost. I am also spending time to SEO this new site since it will not be a register to view site. It will be totally open to everyone, no registration needed to view all the topics.
I will watch bandwidth as time goes on, but I think we will be fine for a few more years with this server setup. We just upgraded the server so we can use up to 1500 gigs of bandwidth a month which is a ton. I really want to keep the new site simple and easy to navigate since it is just for fun discussion of different topics.
The new website has been launched. The website is based on the fact that we all have strong knowledge of at least one subject. The goal with fG is to share that information with others and learn from each others. Most of all you can just use the fG forum for general chat on various topics you are interested in.
Yes I am aware that it has several different meanings. I bought the web domain years back when I heard someone say that an idea was "friggin Genius". That is the way it is used in the United States. That is also the way I plan to use it on the site.
I was actually approached to sell the domain last year and I was not doing anything with it so I was about to agree to do so but a friend told me it was "friggin crazy" to sell it.
So now when I decided to built the new site I thought that the name would be "friggin perfect" so I used it.
I do not want you to feel uncomfortable with the name, but I like it so I will stick with it for now. If you ever decide to join I think it would be "friggin awesome" to have you there too. :)
