I agree the manuals should be loaded with photos and guide you (like the training material does) through worked examples. There are so many ways to do things in PDMS for example in Design .... through the command line (old style)...through the GUI (newer style) and using model editor(new style). But most lay-users learn one method.... and stick to it.... even I am too lazy to look through the manuals and revert to slower older methods rather than confront the horrible task of wading through all this stuff.
We are all learning even after years this is a massive and frequently necessarily complex product...and sub products !!
This is a little con-traversal but.......
The piracy thing is a problem.... but if AVEVA found the resources to write "The PDMS bible!" then there would be no loss I can see.... they could post their bible for free download along with all the training material. It would be a strategic thing to do.... anything to help the customer and make their core product/revenue stream and core competence accessible i.e. THE SOFTWARE!!! I know support and training are revenue streams for AVEVA (maybe not support!!) but this is not core business... Better docs = fewer support calls and less training. but more resources in AVEVA for better PDMS writing and outside AVEVA happier, more productive and more confident users.
Is it just me.... isn't this what businesses aspire to do, focus on core competence? Lose or obliterate the stuff round the edges that get in the way. I am dreaming aren't I :)
