PDMS requires a great level of knowledge, experience and attitude to learn. Anyone with this background will have no problem. Attitude is a big factor, you can lead a horse to water, but, you can't make them drink. A good example..........just because a person learns all the capabilities of MS word, does not make them a journalist.
However, helping someone else learn provolkes you to learn as well.
To a certain extent Kubik.....yes :)....because learning out of the book is one thing. When you apply what you have learned...well that's when you take possession. Interacting in this site is like a chance to be in a live arena with people submitting real questions and problems related to PDMS. Now that's a good way to learn as well as apply the software.
Learning yourself is fine... but it's a bit like learning a musical instrument.... self teach and you may pick up some bad habits and miss out on some key bits of functionality and short cuts to getting great results quickly. Once you have been "spoon feed" the basics a forum like this is really helpful.... in my experinces some users just don't have adventurous bones... Everyday I hear from one or two... I can't do this I haven't had a course in it... I sympathise but you gotta get involved and learn how to learn!! Some just want to drive the system the same way every day, just drive from A to B using only things they know really well. You don't learn like this!! :) You need to experiment (within reason) with new features... I am amazed by how many people still bearly know model editor exists for example. :( I personally love this tool... although I would accept it if other people don't... but to not even know it's there.... VERY SAD.
Well personally...if people make buttons and menus in a program.....I would like to press the buttons and menus and see what happens.. does it work and is it helpful in my work. If it is good I will use it...if not then no problem. In PDMS you must have tried every button and menu to see what it does. And yes these buttons and menus are not so easy to understand sometimes and most of the times. Still if you can and have the time to click and use the menus you should. ALWAYS savework before getting experimental.
