recently i received an offer for a job as piping and cable trays designer for a nuclear power plant. Anyone is working or worked on such a project? is it heavy or it has many differences from a petroleum plant?
1. It will be governed by ASME 31.1 and not by 31.3.
2. The expected life cycle is more in power plants (of around 50 years) so the stress criteria change.
3. The differences will be many when you compare it with Normal O & G plants. Piping will be much less but I'm not sure about it as I have never done Power Plants let alone Nuclear Power Plant.
All the best!
What's to doubt? Work is work and with the current global market unless there are people beating down your door with other offers I can't see why you wouldn't take it it's been offered!
Nuclear Plants are having space constraints so Piping is congested.Cable tray & its supports often collide with Pipe & pipe supports n Ducts.Pipe routing is very simple but Clash removal process takes time.
