Just when will Aveva stop taking its user base for granted? The price of licensing these days is starting to bring a tear to the eye and seems to be potentially forcing companies away from the PDMS suite. Aveva have been advised for numerous years that the big advantage they have over competitors was the ability for the software to be user developed and easily customized , yet we still seem to find the genius college graduates starting in Aveva who know nothing about our industry deciding that it would be a great idea to start encrypting software and making things complicated ! For what reason ? Maybe to protect their own futures who knows ? I have always been a great believer in share the knowledge! however Aveva don't seem to have the same attitude at the moment. It now seems to be lock it away to protect the developer and never mind the user. The path Aveva seem to be heading down at the moment would seem in my opinion to be potentially very damaging and self destructive! Keep the software open keep the software cheap (Reasonably) and keep your user base happy with that you will always have a winner. The recent situations vacant seem to be pointing towards a shift from PDMS to cheaper more accessible software. When will Aveva realize they are shooting themselves in the foot with their corporate philosophy? Just my tupence worth !!! ....
