What kind of stuff do you expect to be in this network? Just a simple programming knowledge sharing or macroses sharing? Different tasks in different companies ...
Why is it that AVEVA do not offer a developer network like Intergraph and Autodesk??
Those of you who are aware of Autodesk products know that since the dark ages Autodesk have offered a developers network to users and companies. This has allowed Autodesk product to benefit from a huge amount of tools / software that enhance their products. Intergraph has also recognised that this is the case and also offer such networks now. However I am a little surprised, being a PDMS user for 17 years and seeing how AVEVA are forward thinking and not to mention their sales team push the fact they are meant to be an open company, that they do not???
No, when I mean a developers network, this is an agreement that a company has with say Autodesk or Intergraph that allows them to use their software for free (well you normally have to pay each year to become a member) to develop third party applications that integrate with either Autodesk's or Intergraph's software.
The thing is that it allows smaller users / companies to develop plugin etc. that AVEVA would not ever develop them selves, because they would not generate enough revenue for the cost of developing it. But in the end makes AVEVA products better by enhancing them. It can't lose revenue as companies like Intergraph and Autodesk would never offer such an agreement if that was the case, maybe just they are more open than AVEVA..
