Is there a problem in using Pipework Toolbar forms in PDMS 12?

  • I don't get the root of your problem.
Spec components will be shown on each of the method Create-Components from pull-down or the same but from Pipework toolbar. I think one of the key difference between them is that in toolbar you can see Piping assemblies of many variations chosen from new libraries whereas pull-down will only give you basic options like Flange-Gasket To tail etc.
Some another option to to SKIP adjacent.
Pull-down can use Rotate Direct etc whereas toolbar can't

I believe E3D mix all useful features from both on one form
  • One of the PDMS Admin/Cat & Spec people in the company has become a PDMS N@zi ! He is bugging me on my use of the “pipework toolbar” and it seems he assumes I made it or I installed it [ I wish I did made it though! :) ]… I’ve been told to use the form from the pull down menu “like everybody does!”... I remember on the training back in 2006 by the instructor of Aveva UK that one of the power of PDMS is having different methods in modelling, from the pull-down, the toolbars and also from the command window..now fast forward in 2014 on PDMS 12, I don’t know why I am facing this ‘crackdown’ on “pipework toolbar”, I never had problem with previous projects, companies & admin persons…

I guess my question goes to Administrators/Cats & Specs persons out there, “Do you have to work on 2 different forms to have the specs, components, etc… to show on both Pull Down Form and the Toolbar Form? And why does some appear only on the pull-down form and not on the toolbar form?”
  • I also don't get the root of my problem. I am a designer & not an admin/spec&cats person, so I really do not know 'the code' or how all these specs & components are put in there.
But as a user & ever since I used PDMS, what I know is that if a component is available in the pulldown form it is also available in the toolbar form. Yes there is a difference in the method which what makes PDMS better. So I think telling a user to only use one method goes against what Aveva is putting out for the design world.

Asking the previous question here does not solve the my toolbar problem but to basically just verify that there is nothing wrong with the 'pipework toolbar' and as you said "Spec components will be shown on each of the method "... so Thanks RUAV! It does help!
  • Root of problem is probably that he doesn't know how it "pipwork toolbar" works, and therefore is afraid of it :)

One issue regarding cats and specs is that if updates are done to spec in paragon, and you do a get work, the Component Creation form (the new one..) is not updated. You need to force kill it and the reopen to have it reread the specs after get work.
Also Component Creation ignores the command line commands for changing mode (backwards forwards..)

I, personally, prefer the Component Creation...
