I was in Framingham at Prime for 1 day....I think Feb 1982 or 1983.. I met with 2 people. I never went to any exhibitions.
Remember Jim's name, but we never met. That brochure was slightly before my time. I was hired by Isopipe in June of 1980.
We produced another PDMS brochure in 1984...just before our office closed.

I have asked Jim Madden but he cannot remember.

I expect that there are people reading this who are completely unaware of Jim Madden's part in creating PDMS.  The first idea of developing what eventually became PDMS came when Jim met Mike Leesley of the CADCentre (now known as Aveva) at a conference and they exchanged ideas about what might be done for pipework design on computer.  That was in 1972 or early 73.  I first heard about it from Jim in 1973.  Jim's hope was that my employer, British Steel, might be interested, but they were not.  Jim then offered me a Job working on Compaid and PDMS (and the drawing-board when work was scarce) in early 1974.

I have just discovered another pile of 1970s material.  The first two-page flyer from 1974 has just been added to https://www.flickr.com/photos/54731504@N04/sets/72157634356482377

    Lots more to come.

And the next entry is a presentation from September 1978.

    And the next:

This was an evaluation done in August 1978 for a prospect who had very strict non-disclosure requirements, so I cannot name them without risking a visit from the FBI.  But I got a trip to Hanford out of it, although they were reluctant to let me, being British, into the place.

All of the computer work was done over a 1200bps modem.  3D graphics was rather tedious at that connection speed, but to hook up directly would have meant a trip to Detroit.
The actual computer running PDMS is in this photo: https://www.flickr.com/photos/54731504@N04/15192325519
and our office at Bricad is here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/54731504@N04/13031311775

Live demos in other company's offices were done with a 300bps modem, so that's how I learned to talk and talk and talk to cover up the time it took....

    One more:

This is a general brochure covering all the CADCentre's programs for the chemical industries.
Must have been produced in spring 1976 because we had it on the stand at Achema 1976.

Very professional job -- and a pig to scan and clean up because of the extensive use of grey half-tones.

This Wednesday I was passing through Nottingham, where Jim still lives, so could meet him in the station cafe for a chat between trains.  He is still full of ideas and working on new software concepts for the chemical industries.  In my bag I had a laptop and a book on a new language for embedded devices I need to learn.  We may have white hair, but we haven't given up yet!
