• Here is some of my work done on PDMS 12 SP6 and rendered on Navisworks 2012.

I have done Administration, Paragon, Design and Draft, 95% of the project was done by me.

  • Very impressive and thanks for posting.  Isn't this your first project and time using PDMS?  Is it finished?  How long did it take you?  What are your thoughts about using PDMS?
  • Thank you for sharing your (very good) job and most important your thoughts, impressions and suggestions.
  • Isn't this your first project and time using PDMS?
No, this is my second project on PDMS. Attached are some rendered images from my first project.

It was a great adventure, 98% of the piping is PPH (High Density Polypropylene) and 2% PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene).

Unfortunately PDMS Master Database don't have any PPH or plastic fittings. So I have done all PPH and PTFE components according the selected manufacture (PTFE components thanks to corrado).

    Is it finished?
No, there still missing some small bore pipes and piping supports.

How long did it take you?
    One and half month.

What are your thoughts about using PDMS?
Well, I'm going to be completely honest here. At beginning I was a little apprehensive to start using PDMS. I'm not still completely satisfied with PDMS.

PDMS is not a user friend software, it as the worst user interface I have used. The pros and cons from PDMS already have bean discussed along this forum to many times so I'm going to focus briefly on each module.

    Administration:
It is a very straight forward module, it is not difficult to use for small companies/project. I think for bigger companies/projects it will be more complicated to manage all user permissions and project areas etc.

    Paragon:
To me the best module. Indeed parametric softwares are the best, but still are missing a lot of small things that can help to improve Paragon. Example sort order on Category form at parameters grid etc.

    Isodraft:
The worst module, it works but this module technology has stopped in time.

The worst thing for me is, if you need to modify a small thing on the isometric you need a third party software because PDMS is not able to open and edit is own files, among others. Just give a look at AutoCAD Plant 3D 2012 Isogen and you will see what I'm talking about.

    Draft:
The second worst module, it works, but I don't know what AVEVA pretends with this module, if it is a module to produce 2D final drawing shouldn't it work more like a CAD software?

    Design:
The best thing on this module is the 3D performance, you can have a big model, it may take awhile to load but PDMS will handle it with no problem.

There are still missing a lot of small things, the Undo/Redo don't work very well etc.

    Final thoughts:
Unfortunately PDMS is not a stand alone software you will always need third party softwares to complete PDMS, such as Excel to handle BOM/Reports and AutoCAD to edit isometrics or 2D drawings. Maybe AVEVA can include a IntelliCAD version or use the CAD engine on PDMS like DDS does on the Solidworks.

If you have plans to use PDMS, don't forget the you will need at least a Office and a CAD software (Example: the best softwares  MS Office and AutoCAD).

PDMS already have the best and powerful database, it have tools, maybe not the best and intuitive tools but they get the job done. But, if the final product are drawings and reports I think AVEVA should invests more on software design and final product quality Isodraft and Draft, this two modules should work as powerful 2D CAD software.

I do have great expectations on future versions of PDMS special on Isodraft and Draft modules.

    Best regards,
    ARamos

  • Could you upload draft drawing too?

Here it is a plant tweaked on AutoCAD because I needed to add existing parts etc.

Here is a Isometric directly from Isodraft without any tweaked.

  • I'm agree with you about draft module , maybe in future versions AVEVA will decide to improve the capabilities.
  • Draft:
The second worst module, it works, but I don't know what AVEVA pretends with this module, if it is a module to produce 2D final drawing shouldn't it work more like a CAD software?

Sorry if I insist on this subject but I do not agree with you.
I think that Draft can give you very good results.
After attending the training you need to spend some time on Draft administration.
    That's the key point.
