Differences between Instrumentation Line and Instrumentation Relationship Shape

How does Instrumentation Line differ from Instrumentation Relationship Shape? And in which situtations it would be reasonable to use one or another?

Instrument lines act like scpline and by drawing, branch, segment and a tube would be created under scilin. But instrument relationship shape will just create a relation between two elements. Instrument relationship shapes have no DB data.
