In VPE P&ID, you can only lable items classified as "pipe" for connectivity. You draw other entites such as tubing or ductwork with a different line type, but it must fall in the category of pipe on the engineering explorer for it to be recognised as a connected item.
Unfortunately, this will cause these items to appear in the pipe list in VPE Workbench. It will also require you to label these items with the same format as your defined pipe label.
If you want to show these items on your P&ID and label them with dumb text, you can draw them as unintelligent graphical entities as you would with normal AutoCAD.
While AVEVA are implementing a means to model cable and raceway in PDMS, the equivalent does not work in P&ID at this time (nor do I think it will be implemented--personal opinion).
