Aveva possibly dropping P&ID package!

  • 1. When we start tagging the valves, there is no indication in Engineering Explorer for untagged valves unlike other entities for which indication are available for untagged items. How untagged valves will be accounted? During validation and synchronization. Is there any way to recognise them beforehand..

VPE P&ID only accounts for bulk items like untagged valves when you use the VPE P&ID Reports program.  For its purpose, the valves are uniquely identified by their handle and their block type and spec. You can get valve counts from Reports by selecting that report type.

2.AutoCAD drawings cannot be imported with 100% success to VPE P&ID. During product DEMO Aveva claims that they have developed an interface between AutoCAD and VPE P&ID. Also, it seems AutoCAD version 2007 is not supported by latest version of VPE P&ID..

Drawings should be checked for errors before importing.  If you find errors, they must be fixed before you can import accurately.  If specific items are not importing, it may be how you drew them or possibly a bug in your version of P&ID that doesn't handle those items well.  To answer better, I'll need to know what version are you using and what are the item types that don't import.

    3. What kind of Infrastructure an organisation should plan for using VPE P&ID and VPE Workbench to develop say 100 Intelligent P&ID's.

Your infrastructure should be based on the number of drafters you have working on a project and the project schedule.  Of course you'll need hardware, AutoCAD and P&ID for each drafter, sufficient hard drive space on a shared network to allow the project work to run smoothly, and a centrailsed process for validation and checking of drafting.  If you want a more detailed answer than that, I'll need to know more about what you are specifically looking to do.
