Translucency from PDMS to Navisworks

  • we are using 12.0.SP4.8

I was referring to AVEVA Review, not AVEVA PDMS.
  • You can't use it if you don't have it. We had Review a while ago. Yes, it makes sense they would understand each other. Both Aveva products We now have some 15 Navisworks licences and need to work with these. I thought this was a thread about PDMS Design and Navisworks ? Am I in the worng place?
  • [QUOTE=amkshmtl;41246]Option 1 is impractical for us. The insulation on the pipe, already modeled, is being added by several designers, all day. Revew models are required 3 or 4 times a day. How can we keep up with which pipes are insulated, which each subsequent review?

    Allan

Option 1 may be a great help. As Neild said export in two stage.
    1. First is export what all items that have insulation
var !insu collect all bran with ispec ne nulref
    or
add all bran with ispec ne nulref
and then export what you've collected or what is in your drawlist. Insulation should be turn on when exporting.
    2. Second is export all model with insulation off or export all model except for items with insulation.

and then append the two models.
in navis you can set transluceny with the one you've exported that insulation is set.

I thinkk that is what you are looking for.
  • [QUOTE=STUARTD;37548]All - if you save your Review session (with translucency settings) as an RVS in the same folder and with same name as review file then Navis should open and read the rvs when you open the rvm file

e.g. in file c:\review\MODEL.rvm, set up all treanslucency, visibility etc. and save as c:\review\MODEL.rvs. Then open c:\review\MODEL.rvm with Navis...

THis really works and is practical...
We are using this for a while now..
All you have to  do is open RVM file in navis it will open the RVS file with the same name..

In explorer tree materail colmn the translucent materails will be shown with the name trans or semi trans etc..just select it and change the translucency level...
  • When i am appending the two rvm's the 2nd rvm is corrupting.., Can anyone help how to export these two files...? OR please guide me where i am doing the mistake.........? I have written rule class for insulation rvm as .........all branch with ispec neq nulref
  • Try this, Export RVM file with Insulation on and the EXPORT REPRESENTATION ON (PDMS 12.0). But the RVM file will open in NAVISWORK SIMULATE only. I was using Naviswork Simulate 2012. From there, find the objects with CAtegory = Items, Icon = Geometry and Material is blank. this will select all the insulation objects, and just override the transperancy.
  • Hi Cutesmile, Thanks for your reply....

Is Navisworks Review 2010 is not enough....?? Do we require simulate compulsory for the above requirement...??
  • i dont know the details. it is because of my test here.. I was using PDMS 12.0sp6 and Extract Review with Export Representation On, and Naviswork review 2010 cant read the file. But when Export Representation Off, review 2010 can open it. The Export representation on can separate element of pipe and insulation.

But if you open the file in simulate and save as 2010 rvm, you can do the above procedure.
