Possibility of working internet base

  • Hi dears

Is there anybody to know that how can work on-line on a same database from different locations at the same time? ( I mean, from two different country)
Is it possible to work for example remotely control without any problem such as occasionally Internet interruption?

    Thanks in advance
  • You can set up PDMS Global with extracts on both locations.

Each user will have to claim the elements they are working on and release them in order for anyone else can work on it.
You will have to have your PDMS global daemon running pretty frequently in order for the information to be shared across the project location.

Look up PDMS Global for more information.

Another way would be to create virtual computers on the primary location that can be access remotely from any other location. It reduces a lot of the issues you will have but It all depends on the internet connection and speed of the virtual machine.
  • Thanks for your kind reply.

I have a question to you for your  first question, is it possible to work on a same database from two  different locations? What I got from PDMS Global manual, we have to set a  main admin in the main office and two local admin in both locations so  in this arrangement users of each location are allowed to work on  Databases which the main admin give them permission, if so it seems that  it's not possible to work on a same database from both locations, isn't  it?

There is a vague issue about your second solution which is  related to Internet connection. As you know internet connection could  be probably interrupted for any reason during working so the question is  what will happen to the Database that we are working on remotely? We  faced to a big problem in a similar situation when we were working on a  project under local network so that it made us to backtrack the Database  to one day before since the network was interrupted for some seconds.
  • 1. Yes, you are right each location use its own dB.
    2. If you organise remote access to primary location and there will be internet loss(between primary and secondary location), then no data loss. Only need to reconnect to virtual machine on primary location
  • Lets say the HUB location is Houston and we are working with another location. I will create 1 set of databases and 2 sets of extracts for that database.
Both locations, the Hub and the SAT will be working off the Extracts, not the Primary database. If anyone wants to work on a particular pipe for example, they must claim the pipe first. This means the daemon must be running in order for the system to claim the pipe. If a pipe is claimed at the SAT location and they forget to release the pipe. No one at the HUB location will be able to work on that pipe.
Its really messy and requires  a lot of Administrative hours just to make sure everyone is working properly.
I would suggest that you have a PDMS administrator at each location with rights to log in to each location and access the admin module. So if I'm working with a SAT that is not part of our company, this will not be allowed. Therefore, I would have to have a direct method of contact to an Administrator. If the time difference is 12hrs. I will be waking you up at crazy hours so my location can work.

In other words, stay away from extracts. They are a pain. Instead focus on a work flow that works better for your company.
  • Thanks JCont20m, for explaining AVEVA Global in simple words.
