PDMS 12.1.1/12.1.SP2.7 problem - Draft crashes when overwriting existing DXF?

  • I have checked on my installation and it works ok in both cases.
    I have AVEVA PDMS Draft Mk12.1.SP2.7[8071]  (WINDOWS-NT 5.2)  (1  Aug 2012 : 21:00)
  • I have tried with the standard SAM project supplied with PDMS and with another project I am using for support purposes.
    Everything works ok.
My PDMS installation is pretty standard.
I think your problem could be due to some istallation issues.
But it is difficult to say.
I would check your privileges about the .dxf or .dwg destination folder....
  • Hello all, just to check if you have the same problem.

When drafters create DXF from a drawing/sheet in Draft of PDMS 12.1.1 or 12.1.SP2.7, Draft says something on the lines The DXF with same name already exists, overwrite? And if you click Yes, the Draft will stop responding, and you have to shut it down and restart it to continue to work. Only workaround I have found is to delete the existing DXF before creating new with the same name, or rename the new DXF. Do you guys experience the same problem?

Also, are you able to create DWG in Draft? If I try to create it, PDMS reports that a problem was encountered and it needs to shut down.

All of these options worked fine in PDMS 12.0 and previous versions, I cannot understand what is the problem in 12.1 and subsequent versions.

This happens under Windows XP and Windows 7 both.
  • Hello Corrado,

    Thanks for the quick reply!

Do you think it might be something wrong with the drawings the users produced, or maybe installation of PDMS? Did you try to create drawings in vanilla project, or do you have any modifications on your PDMS installation? I would like to analyze the problem, do you have any suggestions what to try?
  • I was thinking about privileges, but WinXP is pretty standard in that regard, and PDMS 11.6 and 12.0 had no problems with this. Also, if I had privileges problem, under Windows 7 I wouldn't be able to create initial DXF. I will try out a few scenarios and see what happens, maybe I can get to the bottom of this problem.
  • Hmm still no luck. I have tried SAMPLE project, and it works, as you said. In company project, I removed all custom pmllib folders, but it still keeps crashing...not sure what could be the problem.
