SPEC SELE will not accept 65mm as value for Answer and Maxanswer

When entering 65mm (2.1/2") into the Answer and Maxanswer SELE attribute the value automatically changes to 70mm (2.9/16").  It will accept 64mm or 66mm but not 65mm.

In the NomBoreWorld we have NOMINB 65mm = 2.1/2" and 70mm = 2.9/16"

When using 65mm (2.1/2") components in the model the iso BOM lists these components as 2.9/16" not 2.1/2".  I tracked this down to the SELE Answer and Maxanswer attributes being set to 70mm.

The catalog component's bores are 65mm (2.1/2") however they are still listed as 70mm (2.9/16") on the iso BOM.

What could be controlling the automatic conversion of 65mm to 70mm at the SELE attribute level?

  • Hello, I am not sure if this will help.
I think that the available bore sizes in a Specification is controlled by the Nominal bore table (NOMTAB) referred by the SPEC element.
Can you check the NOMTAB element set in the Nominal bore table reference (Nomreference) attribute of the owning SPEC element?
[ Note: NOMTAB is owned by Table World (TABWLD), instead of NomBoreWorld. ]
Check if 65mm bore is added to the nominal bore table used by your SPEC by opening it with the "Modify Specification Table" button in the Ribbon.

  • The issue happens at the NOMTAB/SNOTAB level as well.  If I try to add 65mm to the NOMTAB it automatically changes the NBore from 65mm to 70mm.  Or if I try to change any SNOTAB NBore to 65mm it will change to 70mm.  Then it gives me this error message.

  • I see, sorry about my first reply. I do not have access to a computer with AVEVA right now so I cannot test it myself.
I think that the reason of the automatic conversion of 65mm to 70mm might be caused by the built-in rounding-off/tolerance setting of bores in AVEVA. I am not exactly sure, but maybe the tolerance setting is to the nearest 1/8 of an inch (0.125)
The current Inchbore attribute of your NOMINB 70mm (NomBoreWorld) is 2 9/16 inches, which value is very close to the previous size 65mm with 2 1/2 inches equivalent.
I think that the 70mm is not a standard bore size and custom in your project.
May I ask if the 2 9/16 inch is correct for 70mm?
I think this problem may be solved by setting the Inchbore attribute of NOMINB 70mm to 2 3/4 inch (2.75).

Reference to this old forum post: https://softwareforums.aveva.com/aveva-world/pdms-e3d-forum/modules-1490676865/f/paragon-module/71817/add-nominal-bore-size/252703

  • We use 70mm for API flange sizes 2.9/16.  We had to add API sizes for well heads (NPS 2.1/16, 2.9/16, 3.1/8, 4.1/16, etc).

If it were a rounding issue I would expect it to happen all over the software, not just at the SELE and NOMTAB/SNOTAB levels.  Our 3.1/8 and 4.1/16 components work correctly.  Only see this behavior with 65mm.

Curious if there is a pml file that controls unit conversions?

  • Sorry I do not know if there is a pml file that can be customized to control the unit conversion.
I also recommend contacting AVEVA Global Customer Support while we wait for an expert to reply here.

My last suggestion is to try to manually add a new SNOTAB under your NOMTAB using the Command Window, since using the Size Table Form prompts an error message.
First select the 50mm SNOTAB, then type the following in the Command Window:

    NEW SNOTAB NBORE 65

Then try editing the SELE in your specification with the Command Window if the Answer value will now set to 65mm instead of changing to 70mm.

  • NEW SNOTAB NBORE 65 creates a new snotab with nbore = 70
