New bolting - is it worth the trouble?

  • New bolting method is very quick and simple compare to the old one.

LJSE problem can be solved by using order ljse-flan-gask-flan-ljse.

In this case you have to have ljse thickness as one parameter in flange so you can make the graphics look good.
  • Yes,  thats the correct order of the component. But if you follow the PDMS manual's method, the calculation of bolt start with the LJSE 1 and finish with the FLAN 1.
What i did , was change the COCO to the Flanges from FAB to WFAB, thus the system consider them like a wafer component, and start the calculation with LJSE 1 and finish with the LJSE 2.

And yes, i think that the manual doesn't consider the Stud End, and many other things.
I could resolve my first problem with the presentation and the training manual who were posted here. For example the manual doesn't say explicit that you must set the spec attributess Blrfmethod to the string NEW, and BSPEC to the bolt specification.....and many others considerations

In general the AVEVA and Intergraph manual's, don't gives the important tips........the important things only says you in training course.
  • Hi 786PDMS,

I have created my own BOLTSETS and SBOL and did everything whatever is needed for the new bolting to come up but still I am not able to get the bolting information in the Isometric.Could you please send me the procedure,if you have from the scratch.
And also if I am using the aveva bolts with the old bolting method, then the bolting information is coming in INCH instead in MM which I need.
    Can you help please?
  • Harry,

Respect at the New bolting Method, i have been using and a i hadn't problem. The PPT in the post N° 6 was very useful to undestand the method. There is other paper in this forum that can help you to clarify, but a i musto to looking for to send you.
To use the New bolting method, the main thing is set the Attributes Bltmethod and Bspec in the specification of the flanges.
Let me know what were you do, and i tell you what you lack

Respect to the Units, in Paragon you have in the Unit level under the World. In its attributes, you have BUNI and DUNI (bore and distance units), you must set them what ever you to have your units.

Let me know how it went
  • Hi Rodrigo,

Thanks for the valuable time and support you have given.Actually that part is almost over by now and it's working fine. By the way, sometimes it happens like it doesn't take up the bolting spec, though you have done everything correct line by line. In that case What I usually do, is that I copy the working Bolting Spec, rename it to the concerned file and then paste the entire content of the working file to the concerned file line by line and it worked,Surprising and shocking!!! Don't know how!!!

As of now, everything is on the track as far as New Bolting is concerned at present.

One Thing Which I want to know at present is that I want to calculate bolting length and put it on the MTO Report. Since we get the length when we make Isometric but I want it to come on a seperate file also. Can we do this?

    /HarryJoe

In isodraft, there is an option that will let you output the bolt length to a separate file.  You need to specify the boltfile name in option file.

Otherwise, you will have to write some pml and do the calculation yourself which is not difficult, but you will need account for all cases, such as wafer type etc.

    Good luck.
  • Hi de_ding,

    Thanks for your prompt reply.
Actually, the thing is that I already have a macro to get the complete MTO where only Bolting length is missing so basically the macro to calculate the Bolting Length was needed so that the macro can be embedded as a function or otherwise and the expected result could be easily generated.

By the way, Thanks for passing such a valuable information.

    Best regards,
    /HarryJoe
  • Hei
I belive i posted few commands in another treads.

    Q P1 BOLT1 BLEN
    Q P1 BOLT1 BDIA
    Q P1 BOLT1 NOFF

from any FLANGED ITEMS like Valve , FLAN, etc.,  This works in NEW BOLTING METHOD ONLY
  • After reading all the "BOLTING" posts,
PDMS doesn't work fine with LJSE elements, even following the procedure shown on the manuals?
we have to choose of using Rodrigo or pitch solutions or ask to aveva helpdesk?
can be this considerated as a "bug"?
  • I do not think LJSEs have ever worked. It was reported to the help desk when the new bolting was introduced but I do not think they have addressed it.
