  • Hello veenuraj,

We also wanted to run PDMS 11.6.SP2 from the network.  However, there are glitches within the code that will not allow this to happen.  We contacted Aveva with the problem.  They suggested that we install the software locally.  I was leary of installing this all of this software locally because of the large number of machines that would get installed.  Then our IT department helped with an installation program that a new user can run.

The other concern was how do we send out updates or enhancements.  Thank the Lord for software like Beyond Compare!  It has scripting capabilities that allow a local folder to be compared to, and updated with, a network folder.  So we make changes to the network folder.  We have a script in place that will update PDMS at login time.  So, the next time that a user logs into their machine, their PDMS is updated to the latest network version.

By the way, the latest versions of Review Reality (6.2+) do not run off the network either.  So we will have to do the same things for Review as we are doing for PDMS.

Here is a link to PDMSForum discussions on the same topic:

    Hope this helps!!

    Have a Blessed Day!!
  • I can install and run PDMS11.6 on my PC and it runs fine.

We are changing servers and starting to run PDMS 11.6 at the same time.

We installed PDMS 11.6 on the new server.

PDMS 11.6 can be ran on the server but not from any of our workstations.

Aveva says that it's a (DOT).NET problem but has not been helpful.

We do not want to run PDMS locally.

Does anyone have this working ?
  • We did find a solution to the PDMS 11.6 across network problem.

On Section 12.4 of installation guide.

On Workstation goto Administrative Tools >
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Wizards >
    Adjust .NET Security >
Make changes to this computer >
    Next>
    Intranet >
    move bar to FULL >
    Finish >

    It works now.
  • Is it just me, or do most of you find that you can find your own REAL solutions to problems with PDMS, even when Aveva tells you that there is no solution?  Or you find an answer before they find one. Let us know.  I don't want it to be an Aveva Bashing thread, you can let us know either way.  Maybe they helped you in an extrodinary way, I'd like to hear about that as well!

You are all smart PDMS users/admins - you are all problem-solver.

Sometime we make Aveva's life a little too easy by solving all the problems ourselves when they charge a handsome fee for maintainence.

However, I have to give Cadcentre credit for designing a system that covers almost all known problems in piping and now maybe in stru/elec/inst.  If you run into a problem then sometime probably have too and solved it.

So thanks to the person who re-incarnated this PDMS forum.  Thank you!
  • Hi,

Thanks a lot for all of your valuable suggestions.I wil try it out and then let you know about it.
Anyways, may be sometimes we can go beyond AVEVA's reach with it's own software.

  • If we get it to work with adding the Intranet level to full access I believe it is a good choice. We will then not need to think about how to copy the files locally as everything runs from the network (as it should and as the other versions work).

The bad thing is that this allows all .Net software to run on the network with full access but hopefully you do not get any bad software on the network shares in the first place.

Now,what I feel is we can do one thing....

we can check as if we are able to configure this with a script (as it isn't so good to have to configure every computer manually). If we are able to "dump" this information from the registry to a reg file or something equal then this could be configured to run on every computer only by adding it to the update script that is running on the computers when started (almost automatic update).

Can somebody take the opportunity to take a step further....
