This problem concerns HW and re-installation of Windows XP SP3...
I have reinstalled a couple of notebooks used in the company, because Designers loaded a lot of software over the years which caused major slow-downs of HW... So in best intentions, I did a reinstall to help Windows XP offload old and unneeded software & whatnot...
Yes, after the reinstall the Windows are faster, but then a problem with PDMS cropped up.
Notebooks used are HP Compaq NC 8430, rather powerful little machines (for the year they were built, which is somewhere around 2005-2006) and are running PDMS satisfactorily. Video card inside is ATI Mobility Radeon X1600, which handles the graphics rather successfully.
However, the problem is, that after the reinstallation, the Command Window in PDMS suddenly is showing signs of slow-down. Before, when Designer would type in Q ATT for a certain item, the information would be listed instantly. But now, after the list of lines in Command Window is filled and Command Windows starts to "scroll" the data (pushing old data beyond visible Window area - you know what I mean), the Command Window suddenly slows down - it's like it is being repainted for every new line of text displayed.
The problem is very curious, since it's non existent on the same notebook with same Video driver, only old Windows XP installation.
Did anyone here had any similar problem, and found out how to solve it? It's rather annoying for the Designers to suddenly have Command Windows which scrolls very slowly, and it makes me look rather bad in their eyes, since I should be some kind of PC guru around here  However, PDMS documentation in that regard is rather poor, and I'm not totally sure where to begin... So, if anyone has any findings in this area - please  :D
I just don't understand how fresh installation and same drivers can cause such problems - PDMS uses OpenGL, right? Are there any particular settings or additional performance files to be installed/modified for PDMS Command Windows to function correctly?
It seems that ClearType is killing PDMS Command Window. As soon as I turned ClearType off in Display Properties - Appearance - Effects, the scrolling of Command Window massively sped up, but still can't get the same result as on another NB which doesn't even scroll the data, it just shows up automatically (like the scroll is instantaneous).
Hope this helps to someone with same problems. If anyone is willing, try turning off the ClearType and then try out the scroll speed in Command Window.
It has nothing to do with PDMS or the installation. it has purely to do with windows. I'm sure your session would end abrupltly if you try to add lot of things in to the drawlist!

What do you mean to say precisely? What are you aiming at? I am not sure I fully understand your point.
I checked defaults on my station and yes you are right: Clear Type is Off and Standard is on. So I did not dare to change it to Clear Type. :)
Somethings inadvertently lead to another: We had once removed one application considering useless. Off it went, along with some dlls that PDMS used. We started getting CLR error. That was 'Common Language Runtime' error as we came to know later. It had to with .NET framework PDMS uses. So we reinstalled PDMS (which in turn installs .NET freshly). The problem was solved. The whole point is:
Have a harder look at what was gone (like dlls gone in our case) when the old thing went off. Maybe compare the structure with faster working notebooks.
Its plain harrowing experience when you do not know where you lost the plot. All the best. I hope this helps.
