Overwriting database files

Good morning friends,
I have a question that I've been thinking lately. In my company, we make backups of the PDMS database by copying it and saving in CDs.
My question is, could there be any problems by copying the database files and overwriting it all?
In one of the projects, we send these files witch are overwriten weekly. I wonder if there could be DB problems.
Thanks in advance!

If we want changes for a certain day it is difficult to get if you over write databases.

there could be a problem if you try overwrite databases where claimed items exist or just users inside.
this operation should take place if no files are in use and no pdms user are in project
