About KB Q2880 and others Ethernet Servers with Citect

After reading Q2880, I tried to repeat the configuration with an Exemys SSE232-LE (see here for details http://exemys.com.ar/beta/english/products/servidores/e232-le/index.shtml). Even though it is the same type of device as the Lantronix, it did not work.
Has someone else tried KB Q2880 with different Ethernet Servers? Which were your experiences?
Thank you pals.

  • Hi romerod,

We have used similar setups, mostly using Westermo EDW-100 devices, sometimes Moxa nPort.
We found it working very well, even over ADSL lines.

When you apply the setup of Q2880 you have to verify the TCP port the device uses.
Your Exemys device uses port 1000 out of the box instead of 3001 in Q2880, so verify the -P switch in the Citect Ports form.

In Q2880 the device works in raw TCP server mode . We found that, using TCP, a connection loss (disconnected UTP cable) leads to the device not coming back online when you reconnect after a period greater than 30 seconds. We ended up using UDP server mode in the device (use -U switch instead of -T in the special options on the Citect Ports form). The Exemys seems to support this as well.

Another advantage of using UDP is that you can set up a redundant pair of I/O servers more easily, without having to configure anything in the device. The device just answers to the server that sends requests.
