AF Templates for smart grids

If this is an appropriate question ;-)?! Has anyone out of the box AF-Templates for energy media (power, gas, heat) in smart grids? Like households (consumer/prosumer), industrial or commercial consumer and energy producer?

Thanks for your help or remarks,

Kai

  • I am not sure I understand the question.

We have been collecting interval data long before called anything "Smart".  This has been the basis of data collection for higher end commercial and industrial customers for decades.

So with the advent of "smart" systems we have been collecting higher smart meter data on residential users as well as commercial users.

So are you asking do we have meter templates?  or templates of a premise like a house or commercial building?

If you are asking for a template on a commercial building or campus, I would ask under which business problem are you trying to solve.  I am working on a building and our template is built around the efficient use of HVAC with an output to visualizations.

Another customer has templates based on charge backs to of utility usage to tenants.

The templates are effectively "views" of data that are built around some business value proposition.

  • Hi Scott,

Thanks for answering. You got i right! I am working in a cross sectoral energy management project with energy transmission networks. The idea is to convert the energy into the other media forms as needed. We don't have a smart grid (using smart meters). So I have to generate all my consumption data based on Standard Load Profiles and store it as huge amounts of "real time data" to work with. To build the AF model of all consumers (thousands of houses, commercial buildings and industry) I would like to use templates. For doing it right the first time I asked the question. I would compare it to your example of charge backs of utility usage to tenants.

But your are right. It looks like it is far more complex as I initially thought.

  • I love the questions.

I would start with what data is available?

Is their a hierarchy to the data from the business perspective?  (Customer Class, Location, Sub Locations, Service Type, etc)

I would use templates to handle data differences between consumer types (unless all data is the same for all conumers)

What media forms are you trying to convert from and to?

Do you want to use a hierarchy or an attribute model?  (meaning below)

A hierarchy being the physical relationship of element to parent element in the AF structure.  An attribute model assigning the parent as an attribute on the child.  If I was going to use say PowerBI as a visualization tool I may use the attribute model if I was only doing PI Vision I may do the hierarchy model.

  • At the moment I just have the end user consumption data I generated and measured producer data all along the transmission hierarchy. In Power I will concentrate on the layer under certain distribution (medium voltage) stations. The measurement unit will be energy [kWh] for all media (power, gas, heat). And yes, there is a AF-hierarchy from customer to end user. I work on that too. The hierarchy will be used for PI Vision and the simulation intelligence.
