Custom Symbols - How do I get PI Vision Custom Symbols to show up in a new PI Vision display?

Hi,

I am trying to make a Custom Symbol in Pi Vision. I have followed this tutorial exactly: Leveraging the Power of PI Vision Extensibility - YouTube and have referenced the PI Vision Extensibility Guide: OSI-Samples-PI-System/PI Vision Extensibility Guide.md at main · osisoft/OSI-Samples-PI-System · GitHub but cannot get the symbol to show up in PI Vision.

I have changed the Debug settings in the web.config file for PI Vision to True and disabled the cache in the browser. I have restarted the browser, refreshed PI Vision, and have tried to make a new display.

Do I need special level of access to create symbols in PI Vision? I am able to create my own displays. Is there another setting I have to change in order to make this work?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

  • If you dragged your custom symbol onto the display and you are unable to see anything, then one of two things have occurred.

    1. You broke PI Vision's base system through the use of a 3rd party library or by introducing a break change to the global javascript namespace.
    2. There's an issue with your custom symbol code.

I recommend viewing the console log in your browser to see if there's an issue with your code or PI Vision when you drag your symbol onto the display.
