Import of the model from PDMS to STAAd/PRO

Hi all
Can someone tell me about any interface available which can cause smooth bidirectional transfer of model, without any data loss, from PDMS to STAAD/PRO and viceversa.

well i havent heard anything about PDMS to STAAD the only one i know is PDMS to Caesar. maybe further research is required on that.

It may be possible to use AVEVA's OpenSteel interface, and convert the PDMS steelwork to SDNF (Steel Detail Neutral Ffile), and then use a converter such as INRE's SDNF Converter (which reads the SDNF) to convert to Staad's STD input format. http://www.realsteel.lt/index.php?page_id=143

You can also use a detailing package like Tekla so that way you can keep the Staad file and the PDMS file synced up, Sort of.

Dhiraj Kumar can Staad produce a SDNF file ?  Can you please add a small example of a STAAD output file..I've been trying to get hold of one..unsuccesfully..to see what format it follows

 

I'm interested in the file format...to see if I can write a macro to import/export to STAAD....I did it for X-Steel so I don't see any reason it can't be done for STAAD...as long as the export file is TEXT based...

Let me know if you need me to try anything out on my end I have Staad 2007 on my machine so I can do the Staad end testing if need be.  If you get this worked out it is something I will need as well so good luck.

AlstomB...can you send me a simple output file (say members RSA,PFC,UB etc) then...I can't get hold of one...otherwise I don't have a basis to work on...

What types of members are those?  Just let me know and I will build you a generic model with a couple of members and post it for you.
