AVEVA Americas recently completed a users survey related to both technical insight and product experiences. Another survey will go out this week, and it will focus on the framework of the new users group in the Americas. If you want to participate contact: UserGroup.Americas@aveva.com
Note -You must be a user in North or South America and a licensed AVEVA user.
Can I suggest that the session be recorded and then people can view it as they have time? Of course the ones in US can ask questions to the presenter.
I have done this with webex about 3 years ago already, and believe the technology is even more advanced these days.
Another idea, members here can post some items they want to see at the presentation and the presenter will try to accommodate them in their presentation.
I was invited by Doug to attend Intergraph's SP3D presentation in Japan and fortunate enough to make it. I wrote down the questions from the perspective of a PDMS user as the presentation went along, and then was able to ask the presenter many questions. They were able to answer me with live demo and some prepared video captures. That to me is a good presentation and accomplished its goal.
When I was with Cadcentre, I always dreaded the pre-sales demo where some sales guys who had no clue what they are selling but dragged you into. Since I have been on both sides of the fence, I can also appreciate the suspicion of users because I have seen some smoke and mirrors in those dog and pony shows.
I think many users on this site are technically oriented, so please "show me the money".
De,
Thanks for your comments. I think the recordings would be a good and easy idea. I will pass them on to AVEVA's Marketing in the Americas.
Thanks for listening to our suggestions and looking forward to seeing your first successful webinar.
While PDMS training takes careful planning and monitoring of the trainee's progress to make sure they have absorbed the material, webinar is more a one-way street of information dissemination.
Maybe this type of medium can also be used as a "user experience" survey when your developers creates new appwares. Of course a proper weighing factor should be applied when you collect feedback - ie comments from a new user and a PDMS veteran should be treated differently.
One example, if someone from Aveva shows how Catview is suppose to be setup and used, then 25% of specon related questions on this forum will be answered.
Congrats on your first webinar. This is difficult to do but at least you have plenty of time to prepare for it. Ron may I suggest next time we also want a head shot of Jesse when he is doing the demo?
Jokes aside, I hope you do not mind me providing some constructive criticisms.
1. This is not really a PDMS 12 demo, but a reading off a prepared ppt presentation. I saw Gavin Watton's presentation in Japan over a year ago, and the one you are using provided a lot less info. Are the other features no longer available?
2. For future webinars, you can use the topics you mentioned in this high level presentation to show us how they are setup/done in a real project or your IMP project. Or just point to us where in the Aveva delivered model those new attributes/features are available in the IMP/MAS project? Since the audience are all experience PDMS admin/users, we know what we are looking for, so please tell us where to look for it.
For example, UDET can be defined as exchanger, can you create a video of defining a EXCH type of element in Lexicon and then go into design module to create new element, and then run report etc? Same for Plantgrid - I have seen PDMAX show a lot better videos on their website (over a year ago) about how grids are done. Pipe assembly. search utility, splitting pipe, rebore/reselect,hole management, paragon/spec creation/modification, bolt table utility, draft output utility, upgrade process etc etc. I hope this is not too much to ask.
I sat through an Intergraph SP3D dog and pony show in a live environment for over 6 hours, and all my questions as a PDMS admin were answered with real examples and not ppt screenshots. Richard S. answered all my questions with videos they have already prepared in anticipation of queries from experienced plant design users and sometime he uses live model.
If I were a client who have sat through both presentations, I have no doubt Aveva will not make a sale even with my strong bias to PDMS.
Sorry I tell the truth because I care.
Good luck and I hope we will see some REAL PDMS 12 in action next time.

I don't think you understand the purpose of the AVEVA Webinars. They are limited to 30 minutes, so there is a lot to cover in a short amount of time. If you would like to see something in more detail or learn how to do something (ie. UDET's) may I suggest you contact your AVEVA rep. to schedule a demo, take a training course provided by AVEVA, or read the manual as setting up and creating UDET's is in the manaul. The purpose of the webinars is not to train you on how to do something, but to educate AVEVA's audience on the new functionality in their existing products and educate them on AVEVA's new products (ie. AVEVA Instrumentation).
I did notice a few things were left out, for example Router, which is now integrated in PDMS and is no longer a separate licensed product.
If you would like a 6 hour "dog and pony" show from AVEVA contact your sales rep and get them to set up a demo for you and your company on new features in PDMS 12.0. AVEVA has an office in Japan: http://www.aveva.com/region.php?location=28
I don't think this Webinar series is going to go into the detail you want, but I agree that video's showing how to do things in PDMS and AVEVA's other products would be good. And I will try to make some when I have time and make them available online somewhere.

Are you speaking for Aveva or speaking for yourself now? Can't do both at the same time.
I know what PDMS12 does, the company I work for is going through all the PDMS trainings so I have access to all material. Nothing to revolutionary(sorry did not mean to offend the hardworking Aveva software developers, and some of the features Aveva trying to incorporate existed in PASCE 10 years ago) to entice us to move to this version because we already know how to use PDMS to deliver projects.
Well it is up to Aveva to show us the dogs and ponies to get us on board to PDMS12.
How many PDMS users have upgrade to PDMS12 alreay, how many are using it on a real project now? And why? Of course SP3D has the same problem because users just do not trust software companies in their claims.
In my current company I can use PDMS and SP3D, and guess which one I will use? I will use the tool that I am comfortable with, the tool that provide me the flexibility to study new features on my own and not sitting through 10-20 days of trainings. Which company can afford this type of training budget at current economic climate?
