• Hi,

I am looking for some information on using PDMS Diagrams module and how well is it integrated with the design model? Do you use such for your projects?
  • If by diagram you mean P&ID package... then you search for posts in "other Vantage product" section and post there for ElizabethM .

The integration is not seamless as the sale guys claim.  Those seams are usefully filled by the blood, tear, hair and curses from people known as PDMS administrator  and occasionally by Aveva application support engineers.
  • I think diagrams is only available in AVEVA Marine (and I am not sure which versions - I have seen various bits internally, but cannot remember which were 11.6 series and which were 12.0 series, so don't have any useful experience)
  • Thank you for your answers.

I have already checked "other Vantage product" and based on it and some other facts my impression is that P&ID/Diagrams are not widely used by PDMS users. Just wanted to confirm or deny this supposition.
  • mminchev -
AVEVA VPE P&ID sits on top of AutoCAD and has been part of the VPE (Vantage Plant Engineering) package. de-ding led you astray by saying that it interoperates with PDMS - it doesn't do so by itself. In order to port data from the P&ID using VPE, one requires Model Object Manager and Connectivity Manager. The job of model object manager is to map objects, their types and names from VPE into PDMS. Then Connectivity Manager can create the P&ID elements in PDMS and report and display any differences betweeen them. As with other complex tasks, this requires training, and implementation is better when people are knowledgable about the elements being mapped, as well as knowledge of PDMS.

Later this year, AVEVA and Autodesk will be announcing new P&ID products and new approaches to working with P&ID's and PDMS seperately or together.
If you're going to one of the ISEIT conferences, or if you ask your AVEVA Account Manager about this, you'll learn more.
  • SolidModeler,
Please read my post again, and let me know when I was trying to lead someone astray and where did I mention "it interoperates with PDMS".

FYI, it does interoperates with PDMS before it was even called VPE, and it does compare the PID with PDMS routing and will highlight discrepencies.

Do you work for Aveva?  Have you ever used VPE on real projects? Have you ever used PDMS comparitor before?

If the answers are yes, then please share your experience here and not vague comments like go to ISEIT, talke to Aveva account manager... Not all of us worker bees can afford the time or the expense to go to ISEIT.

I welcome constructive criticism here, but please be a little more active, ie do more than 25 posts per 18 months before starting being critical.

    best regards,

    De Ding
  • Unluckily I don't think the "refresh" command is a PML command, is more like a visio one  :S
