We have to make discision on purchase of review software. Currently in the market we have Navis work from Autodesk and Review reality from Aveva. Which one should we purchase interms of functionality and advantage.
It really boils down to how are you going to use it much like Deva mentioned. If the majority of your use is all PDMS centric then it's definitely Review. If you are also needing to layer in other design tool data generated by Bentley or Autodesk components then you would be better off with Navisworks. It really just depends on the percentage of items that you need to visualize. Then add in the items like Corrado mentions as far as the amount of data you need to see in the review software too. You can see the entire db in Review while only a small sampling of data in Navisworks.
In my company we have Naviswork because it runs with most of 3D formats and in many projects we need to give naviswork files to the customer for verification but we can also rent AVEVA REVIEW when we need. Ask your AVEVA office for this.
One thing to be cautious of that most people don't know. They give navisworks files to their clients, NWD files, thinking they are secure. These files can be translated into AutoCad through a translator. So in some cases that is a good thing but in some cases firms believe that the NWD file is a file that can only be viewed.
[COLOR=#333333]It takes a little bit of time. If you have an NWD file you will first need Navisworks Manage 2013. You can export the nwd to an fbx file. Then Autodesk has a (free) fbx converter that can export to dxf. Then you just open the dxf in AutoCad. I've heard that the graphics may need minimal clean up but that the model is very close to the NWD file itself.
