In my current project we've imported several equipments, platforms etc.
But when I try to add them to my drawlist Draft crashes and the message is "External component has thrown an exception". The program doesn´t exit, but it freezes and I have to exit using Task Manager in windows..
However, one of the STEP-files that is in the model, works in Draft. So I believe that it depends on either the program it came from, or what method the exporter uses.
Has anyone experienced this problem with Step-files in Draft?
And what setting in the exporters program is it that causes the file to malfunction in Draft?
Yes, i checked the volumes for the GENPRI in the specific equipment, and they all had volumes.
However, when I tried to check all of the imported EQUI, design crashed. It had something to do with the memory being either "write protected or corrupt".
I've also checked the database containing the imported elements using DICE, but it came out with no errors...
When importing a model that contains ‘inconsistencies’ in the data, e.g. gaps along surfaces/edges due to tolerances when faceting, an error message is displayed. So I suggest you to check the original data. And try to semplify/correct it before importing it into PDMS
- I created a drawing containing only my grid-zone, and one of the small STEP-files. This works!
- I tried with one of the other STEP-files, still only one file at a time, and this also works
- When i proceed I find that the error occurs in two scenarios: When I add the STEP containing the platforms. And when I have more than one STEP-file in the drawlist at a time.
Is there anyone here that have the same experience of problems with STEP-files in Draft?
Is there any way to check the .stp-files for errors?
Really need this to work as the imported files must be included in our 'As Built'-drawings...
You should always keep you installation updated with the latest fixes. The latest one is No. 13
Semplification of the imported model should be done into the source package.
Some Mechanical CAD softwares has the possibility to export a sort of "envelop". No internal pieces that are not required by PDMS.
I will try to simplify the imports. Is this done by editing some file that Mech Interface uses when it imports the STEP? Or how do I change the settings of the import?
The picture you refer to showed up as I imported, so it might solve my problem.
I'm using 12.0.SP6.0[7070], so maybe I should download any updates before I proceed?
Yes. It shouldn't take too much time for them. For example, inside Autodesk Inventor I have been told there is an option to save into a .step file just the "wrapper" (or the "skin") of the 3D model. No internal pieces are exported.
I think they can also suppress the export of holes or parts smaller than a given dimension.
