regarding bltlength of same spec and same dia of blt and different number of bolts

  • hi i have the doubt in the new blting methd,

in my 300# spec  for 3", 4", 6" bolt dia is smae but number of bolts is different,
when i give the extra length in sbol for the length of the 3" is ok remaning 4" and 6" is wrong.
hw t give the extra length for the same bolt dia and different number of bolts
  • i explained my problem detail,

in my 900# spec for 4"and 6" dia flanges have the bolts 8-1.125 and 12-1.125  bolt dia of both flanges is same.
    according to new bolt method
    for  thickness of 4"  flange +gasket+flange = 110.06   (stud boltlength requiree= 190)  xtalength= 79.94
    for 6"   flang+gasket+flange =  128.06                      (studboltlegth required= 215)   xtralength= 86.94

when we are calcilate and give the xtra length  in SBOLE- 1.125   79.94 for 4" stud bolt length is ok but 6" studbolt length we get wrong (210 only).

any body knows the solution please tell me its urgent.
  • Exactly what flanges are you using, Raised Face or Ring Joint? What flange thickness have you input?
What thickness of gasket have you input?

The bolt lengths you are trying to achieve appear to be longer than necessary.
For a 4" 900# rf or ring joint flange Asme B16.5 recommends a 170mm long bolt.
    For a 6" 900# rf flange Asme B16.5 recommends a 190mm long bolt.
    For a 6" 900# ring joint flange Asme B16.5 recommends a 195mm long bolt.
  • For a 1.125 dia bolt I would expect to have

    BDIA 28.58
    XTRA 6.35  (Equivalent to 2 screw threads [8 threads/inch   25.4 / 8 x 2 = 6.35] )
    BITL 28.9   (1 x Nut Length)
  • I think I have an idea of how the new bolting method works.
What you are doing does not appear to follow the rules.
Why do you want bolts longer than those recommended in Asme B16.5?
  • hi pitch,

longer  bolt is required as per the our project requirement, our material team given the that bolt length s.

    according to we are doing.
as per asme standers also in 900# 4" and  6" it get correct for using new bolting method, if we are giving extra lengths in sbole 1.125 for 4" it is ok, for 6" it shows wrong
  • Create a different SBOL for your 6" flange and adjust the xtra length to achieve what you require.
Add the second SBOL to the bolt spec using a different BSEL setting eg BSEL for 4" set to DEF,  BSEL for 6 set to XXX

In design you will need to set BSEL of each component in the 6" joints to XXX (no need to set gaskets)

This should get the correct SBOL for the different sizes
  • hi pitch,

according to your thread i understood about the  new sbole creation.

but you are saying set the  BSEL for 6" set to XXX is ok.

how to set the BSEL to XXX every component in Design , can you explain detail.  where we update the BSEL for the components in design.
    i tried i didnot get,
  • You only need to set BSEL for your 6" flanged components

Both flanges, plus any connected flanged components, (e.g. Valve, Instrument, Filter etc.) will require the Bselector value setting to XXX.

Wafer type components, (slip blinds, spacers etc.), may be ignored.

The Bselector attribute can be set in two ways:

        MENU

    1. Navigate to component
    2. Modify Attributes menu
    3. Click  Bselector
    4. Enter  XXX in the pop-up box
    5. Click  OK
    6. Click  ACCEPT

    OR

         1.     Navigate to component

        2.      Command Line:-

                 Type:  BSEL ‘XXX’
  • according to your thread i set the BSEl to XXX  all flanges and connected components in design,

and i created new sbol for 6" in paragon and i gave the requred xtralength also, and  set the question and answer in the boltspec  question BSEL answer To XXX.

but i didnot get the   required bolt length in the isometric.

    any settings required in paragon?
can give the suggestion how to solve this.
